Governors

The core functions of the governing body

The law states that the purpose of governing bodies is to 'conduct the school with a view to promoting high standards of educational achievements' (Section 21((2)) of the Education Act 2002)

The Governors are our critical friends and they work extremely hard in their voluntary yet highly responsible role. Governing bodies are the key strategic decision-making body of every school. It is their role to set the school's strategic framework and to ensure all statutory duties are met. The governing body holds the Headteacher to account for the educational performance of the school and its pupils, and the performance management of staff. It also oversees the financial performance of the school, making sure its money is well spent.

The structure of our governing body

Our governing body is made up of:

  • Two parent governors
  • The Headteacher
  • One staff governor
  • One local authority governor
  • Co-opted governors
  • Associate members

How our governing body works

We hold two full board meetings each term, chaired by Mr Tony Mulvey.

In addition to this we have two main sub committees - Finance and Facilities and Teaching and Learning, chaired by the Headteacher.

Our Governors

Tony Mulvey - Chair of Governors (Local Authority)

 Tony Mulvey

My name is Tony Mulvey and I am currently the Chair of Governors for Littlemoor. I started out as a parent governor many years ago before becoming the local authority governor representative. As well as holding the position of Chair of Governors, I also have individual governor responsibilities for Health & Safety and Safeguarding within school. I also sit on the sub committees for Finance and Facilities as well as Teaching and Learning.

On a personal note, I am originally from the local community and in fact attended Littlemoor School as a child. I am married, live locally and have three children of which two also attended Littlemoor. I am the Managing Director of a Doncaster based engineering company with 25 years service. My general interests are anything sport based, travel and spending time with my family.

Finally, my motivation and main reason to become a school governor was to assist the Leadership and Management of the school to provide the best possible support for pupils, parents and the community.

Appointed July 2013 by DMBC

Gregg Wilson - Vice Chair (Co-opted)

Greg, Vice Chair

I was elected to the Governing Body in April 2014 as Vice Chair of Governors. I wanted to become a school governor to help a school with the experience I have. I work for Advanced HR and we deliver HR support to a number of schools in Doncaster including Askern Littlemoor. Being a School Governor can be challenging at times but is also interesting and can be very rewarding.

Vice-chair term of office 2 years.

Appointed April 2014 by DMBC.

David Rotherham - Co-opted Governor

My name is David Rotherham. I am a new governor at this school. I have lived in the Doncaster area all my life and have recently retired as a secondary teacher from Ridgewood School. I now have time to enjoy my hobbies of sports and gardening. I look forward to my involvement with Askern Littlemoor.

Married to Mrs Rotherham, our teacher governor and part time teacher

Appointment September 2013 by DMBC

My name is Jayne Dance and I live in North Lincolnshire. I have been teaching since 1997. I have been the deputy head teacher at Askern Littlemoor since 2013. Littlemoor is a fantastic school with creative and hardworking staff and children.  I have taught both Year One and Year Two children and I am currently teaching in Foundation 2 and Year 1.

Lesley Downing - Co Opted Governor

I originate from the local area and after working in several different locations in England and Gibraltar I have now settled back in Yorkshire. I believe the education of young people is crucial and that deserves support.

I currently work within the horse racing industry being responsible for the services that process and distribute all data nationally and internationally.
